Set a documented retention rule
Your policy should define when retention starts, how long records remain available, who can access them and how they are securely deleted. Apply the same rule to attachments such as photographs, inspection sheets and proof of delivery.
Consider connected obligations
- The life and value of the asset.
- Employment, rental, insurance and warranty time limits.
- Open damage, recovery, disciplinary or legal matters.
- Privacy requirements for employee and customer information.
- Audit and financial recordkeeping policies.
